A young male was sent to the hospital Thursday evening with serious injuries after a motorcycle accident in the Town and Country Mall parking lot sent him flying over the guardrail into the Hillcrest golf course.

The male, about the age of 18 according to a friend at the scene, was riding bikes with several other friends on the north east side of the lot.

“The one was test riding a buddy’s motorcycle and just lost control,” said Cpl. Bob Heath.

According to witness statements given to the Moose Jaw police, as the motorcycle driver lost control, he sped up instead of using the brakes.

“Driver inexperience definitely played a part in the accident,” said Heath.

The bike collided with an industrial garbage bin before hitting the guardrail, which hurled the driver down the steep embankment to the Hillcrest golf course, said the Moose Jaw police in a written statement.

Emergency crews used a backboard and rope to pull the individual back up to the mall parking lot then rushed him to the hospital.

“There is definitely some broken bones and bruises,” said Heath, but the full extent of the injuries is not yet known.
