Saskatchewan celebrates inaugural Canada’s Agriculture Day

Thursday was all about celebrating agriculture in Canada and that includes Saskatchewan.

“It’s actually Canada’s Agriculture Day and the theme is ‘Let’s celebrate the food we love,’” said Michelle Panko, agriculture awareness specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture.

“With us being the Ministry of Agriculture here in Saskatchewan, it’s a natural fit for us. We’re a big player to fall behind this initiative to celebrate and support Canada’s Agriculture Day.”

The inaugural day is intended to highlight everything happening in the agriculture industry and Panko said it’s a chance to open up the dialogue about agriculture and food. Regional offices, including the one here in Moose Jaw, were encouraged to celebrate the day and engage even more with clients.

“It’s to celebrate the business of agriculture. We want to engage in positive dialogue about agriculture and food. Farmers and ranchers are getting better at telling their story and this is another opportunity for them to showcase what they do and why they do it that way. It’s an opportunity for us in the agriculture community to connect with consumers to help them make that connection to where their food comes from.”
