Generals take sweep over Battlefords Stars

The Moose Jaw Generals were expecting a tough, physical weekend from the Battlefords Stars in Sask. Midget AAA Hockey League action, and that’s exactly what they got.
They also picked up a pair of wins — which at this point in the season all that more important as they look to lock down second place.
The Generals took a 4-1 victory Sunday at Mosaic Place after battling to a 5-4 win on Saturday
“They’re a physical team and they take way too many penalties, but we responded and it was good to see that from our guys,” said Generals coach Ray Wareham. “We scored a couple power play goals there and that’s been our issue all year, so it was nice to see that.”
Evan Thomas had a goal and an assist in Sunday’s game. while Austin Miller, Reece Newkirk and Tyson Manz all had single markers.
Hunter Arps made 22 saves for the win.
Saturday, Dylan Jones had two goals and an assist; Thomas, Jake Tremblay and Ahmed Ally had their other goals.
Matt Lenz had 27 saves in taking the victory.
The Generals improved to 37-7-3 with the wins and are back in action Thursday as they travel to Saskatoon to face the Contacts.
Ideally, the playoff picture will start to clear up this week as the regular season draws toa close.
“All we knew is Game 1 will be here Feb. 24 so we’ll just keep watching and see what happens.” Wareham said.
