Canada falls to Sweden

Things couldn’t have gone much worse for Team Canada at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships on Thursday.
Canada — including Moose Jaw Warriors defencemen Josh Brook and Jett Woo — gave up three goals in each of the second and third periods to take a 7-3 loss in their quarter-final game against Sweden in Spiska Nova Ves, Slovakia.
Sweden took a 1-0 lead out of the first period before Matthew Strome of the Hamilton Bulldogs scored to tie the game only 1:58 into the second.
Canada fell behind 3-1 midway through the period, but Mackenzie Entwhistle (Hamilton Bulldogs) scored with 5:22 remaining to pull with one. Brook drew an assist on the goal.
Sweden restored their two-goal lead before the period was out and then added a pair of markers in the first 10 minutes of the third to go ahead 6-2. Maxime Comtois (Victoriaville Tigres) got one back for Canada with 11 minutes left but that would be as close as they’d get.
Canada was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
Finland defeated the Czech Republic 6-5, Russia downed Slovakia 3-2 and the United States beat Sweden 4-2 in the other quarter-final games.
