Mallards back in win column

After settling for a tie with the Regina White Sox earlier in the week, the Moose Jaw Mallards were looking to get back in the win column against the Regina Blue Jays on Thursday.
Mission accomplished.
The Mallards built an early lead and held off a late rally by the Jays to take a 9-7 victory in Baseball Regina Bantam AA league action. The Mallards once again wasted little time getting on the board, as Hunter Stewart and Riley Skarbon crossed the plate in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Sam Caplette added a run in the second inning before Cole Breitkruez and Bohden Bellows crossed the plate the next frame to put Moose Jaw ahead 5-2.
After Rylan Watson and Evan Callaghan led off and scored in the fourth, Regina suddenly found their bats, scoring three in the bottom of the frame to close within a pair 7-5.
Skarbon and Watson scored a pair of runs with two outs in the sixth, adding some crucial insurance as Regina again scored two in the bottom of the inning.
The Mallards left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but that would matter little, as they were able to shut down Regina in the final inning to secure the victory.
Moose Jaw improved to 4-1-1 with the win and moved into second place in the league standings, tied with the Regina Buffaloes.
The Mallards are back in action Tuesday when they face the Swift Current 57s in their first meeting since their opening night loss.
